every company tracks you but facebook built an entire empire on doing it more thoroughly than anyone else. the Cambridge Analytica scandal exposed up to 87 million users data harvested without real consent, and the FTC hit facebook with a $5 billion fine in 2019, the largest privacy penalty the US government had ever issued at the time. facebook absorbed it as a cost of doing business and kept going.
